Trees for Elham is a tree planting project in co-operation with the Elham Gardening Society,
we plan to plant trees at fourteen sites. The charity Kent Men of the Trees has agreed to provide over 100 trees and some hedgerows and help plant them early 2009.
Great care was taken in selecting the locations and species. At the Cricket Ground there will be 12 Field Maples along the approach drive, with two Tall Maples, five Walnut trees and some Birch, Hornbeams and Whitebeams in the actual ground. Other sites include Canterbury Road, Large Leaved Red Oak and North of Bereforstal Farm, 6 Wych Elms and 6 Walnut trees. In the churchyard, there will be Dark Purple and White Lilac. Elham Primary School will have 15 trees and is showing great interest in the project.
All trees will need staking and some will need cattle guards. Permissions from landowners, KCC and the Parish Council are being sought.
To help fund the project, the Gardening Society has donated £300 and Susan Carey of KCC has committed £500 towards the cattle guards.
We need volunteers to form working parties so please contact us if you would like to be involved.
